2019 Ukrainian Easter Egg Workshop

April 6, 2019

On Saturday April 6th, Darlene Sprott led the 2019 Ukrainian Easter Egg Workshop.  This one day event introduced community members to the art of Pysanky, or Ukrainian Easter Eggs.  The participants were taught how to use wax, tools and dye to make beautiful Easter eggs.  The cost of the workshop was $50 and included a Pysanky tool kit, refreshments and a lunch of quiche, oriental chicken salad, sandwiches and desert.  There were roughly 30 participants in attendance. Participants were encouraged to make 2 to 3 different designs and were instructed in the traditional Ukrainian patterns.  The medium allows for significant creativity, and some participants took the opportunity to simply explore and create modern designs.  There was a draw for four goose eggs.

There will be two more workshops this month.  They are on April 13 and April 27th from 9am to 1pm.  Contact Darlene for more information:

Darlene is a sculptor from Almonte Ontario and has worked with several of the regions most renowned artists.  She has her BFA cum laude from York University.  She has been making Pysanky for over 20 years.
